Matched Pair of Gas Figural Mercury Newel Post Lights that can be fitted as Table standards. Absolutely magnificent. They retain about 90% of their original finish. Mercury is rising off the globe and appears as if he will take flight at any moment. The quality of the casting is breathtaking, you can see his musculature, tendons and bones beneath his skin. On one of the arms there is a surface crack in the metal that is not structural and will be virtually undetectable once it is repaired, other than this damage and the slight loss to the original finish they are in mint condition. Fitted here with Painted milk glass shades in blue and gray with gold tracery, most likely Sandwich .

American Circa 1870, probably Mitchell Vance & Co.

Dimensions: Height: 37"-, Width at widest where leg is outstretched is 7.5 inches, original wooden newel post mounted base is 6.5 inches in diameter.

Over the top Mercury Gas Newel Post Light. The very best spelter Mercury we have ever seen. Everything is in great condition. All of his fingers, his patina and the staff is present. Absolutely no repairs. The staff is a bit loose but we'll take care of that. The finish is a bit dull but a little cleaning will make it glow with a soft lustre. Great Original Patina. When you look at the details of his torso you can imaging him breathing.

He appears to defy gravity with outstretched leg and fully extended arm holding the light!
